Our Story

Founded in 2022, Birdieskin is a sun safety initiative dedicated to protecting golfers' skin in the Chicagoland area. By partnering with local golf courses, we are able to educate Chicago golfers about the importance of sun protection when they play. Oftentimes, golfers recognize the obvious dangers –deep bunkers, ponds, or even houses– but many fail to recognize the most dangerous obstacle: the sun. According to US News and World Reports, golfers have a "250% greater risk of developing skin cancer than non-players".

Our mission at Birdieskin is to create more awareness about skin cancer in golf, so golfers can focus more on making more birdies, while equipped with the facts.

Founder & President

Andrew Chen

Andrew is a senior at Adlai E. Stevenson High School. Over his junior golf career, he has played with a diverse number of other golfers, but they all seemed to have a common similarity: an indifference towards sun protection. Very rarely did Andrew observe the use of sunscreen among his peers and, surprisingly, their parents as well. In order to bring awareness to the danger of skin cancer in the game, Andrew founded Birdieskin, a culmination of his passion for golf and health advocacy. He strives to help the Chicagoland community continue enjoying the great pastime in a manner that is safe and informative..
